Why do guys do this??

So I've decided that men who ask if my sister is single after seeing a pic of her & I together are going to be blocked, deleted, and written off without further ado. ESPECIALLY if they've been chatting me up until they see a picture of her!

I mean, c'mon guys... that'd be akin to me flirting with you in order to find out your best friend's name & penis size!

There's no couth in that whatsoever. If I decide after talking with you for a while, that you're better suited for my sister or one of my girlfriends than you are for me, believe me I'll let you know & send you a picture of them. In fact, I'll even go so far as to inform them of your existence if you'd like me too. But DON'T get all randy & smarmy & piggish & start chasing them while you're still chatting me up. That's just so uncool it's not even funny.

Maybe guys just don't realise how women view this? Is it okay in your minds to do this - as in "I'm not into her, but WOW would I ever be into her friend" ? Is this something guys do to women on a regular basis? How would you feel if a woman you were into, asked you if that hot, hunky guy in the picture beside you was available?

Anyone??

And now for some fish!

Guide, on Babel fish :

"The Babel fish," said The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy quietly, "is small, yellow and leech-like, and probably the oddest thing in the Universe. It feeds on brainwave energy not from its carrier but from those around it. It absorbs all unconscious mental frequencies from this brainwave energy to nourish itself with. It then excretes into the mind of its carrier a telepathic matrix formed by combining the conscious thought frequencies with nerve signals picked up from the speech centres of the brain which has supplied them. The practical upshot of all this is that if you stick a Babel fish in your ear you can instantly understand anything said to you in any form of language. The speech patterns you actually hear decode the brainwave matrix which has been fed into your mind by your Babel fish.

"Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mindboggingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as the final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God.

"The argument goes something like this: `I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, `for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.'

"`But,' says Man, `The Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED.'

"`Oh dear,' says God, `I hadn't thought of that,' and promptly vanished in a puff of logic.

"`Oh, that was easy,' says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing."

Gleanings from 'The Book'

The Book: It is important to note that suddenly, and against all probability, a Sperm Whale had been called into existence, several miles above the surface of an alien planet. Since this isn't a naturally terrible position for a whale, this innocent creature had very little time to come to terms with its identity. This is what it thought, as it fell:
The Whale: Ahhh! Woooh! What's happening? Who am I? Why am I here? What's my purpose in life? What do I mean by who am I? Okay okay, calm down calm down get a grip now. Ooh, this is an interesting sensation. What is it? Its a sort of tingling in my... well I suppose I better start finding names for things. Lets call it a... tail! Yeah! Tail! And hey, what's this roaring sound, whooshing past what I'm suddenly gonna call my head? Wind! Is that a good name? It'll do. Yeah, this is really exciting. I'm dizzy with anticipation! Or is it the wind? There's an awful lot of that now isn't it? And what's this thing coming toward me very fast? So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like 'Ow', 'Ownge', 'Round', 'Ground'! That's it! Ground! Ha! I wonder if it'll be friends with me? Hello Ground! [dies]
The Book: Curiously the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias, as it fell, was, 'Oh no, not again.'

Why do we do it?

So I've been hiding from everyone I care about & love for the past 2 or 3 months. There are no heavy emotions associated with it, just an overwhelming urge to crawl under a rock.

School has been hell since I went back to work full-time in February... never in a million years did I imagine it would be THIS hard!! Trying to balance a 4on/4off schedule with a 10 year-old son is hard enough... toss on a long-distance course that's taught in most places as full-time in class... and watch me spin! There have been days lately where I've lost my keys in my own damned pocket. How bad is that?

Then, to add on top of that.. I've neglected friends and family to the point where I feel bad even calling them to say "Hi". Do we neglect the ones we love because we think they'll always be there for us, or because we know they love us no matter what? Either way, we really do take them for granted, don't we?

Ah well.... final exams are done now, I'll have more kiddo time before he heads out to BC for a month & HOPEFULLY I'll get in some friend time there too!!

Tattoos

I got my new tattoo on Wednesday... what can I say... Bear from Bear's Skin Art kicks ASS!!!! What an amazing job he's done... and it just keeps looking better & better! It took just over 3 hours from start to finish and the guys were totally professional from start to finish.

I'd recommend Bear's Skin Art to ANYONE!!! Check them out... tattoosbybear.com

Life n such

Cat seems better... no more urethral obstructions thank god! Came close to putting him down in March though, after he cost me another $500 for basically the same problem. Now he's sneezing... ever heard of cats with allergies?

As for school... we had our 2nd set of mid-terms at the end of March. Thank god they're done!! Scored over 80% in Cardiology & Paramedic Emergencies... just waiting for the dreaded Pharmo & Pulmonary marks to come back now... ugh!

Other than that... not much else to tell! Been busy with work & kiddo & school... neglecting my friends... oh yeah, and enjoying the occasional scotch!

Update: Got my Pharmo & Pulm marks... while they aren't as high as I'd like, they ARE higher than he marks I got on my first mid-terms, so I'll take 'em!

Pets

Have a sick cat... *sigh* Not quite sure what's going on, other than that he has a rock-hard abdomen and growl/yowls everytime you try to move him/pick him up/etc.

Going to see the vet at 220 this afternoon... I'll give you the update when I get back!

Update: (should've done this ages ago) Cat spent 2 days at the vet's, got catheterised & put on meds... he's home now. I swear they know when extra $$ comes in! Stupid cat cost me just under $600. Damn!!

Thoughts

Found this Sanskrit proverb the other day and it struck me as something that we all need to remember, so I thought I's share it with those who mean something to me. :-)

"Yesterday is already a dream,
and tomorrow is only a vision,
but today well lived,
makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
and every tomorrow a vision of hope."

Hopefully, it strikes a chord within you, as it did in me. I'd be interested in your thoughts, if anyone wants to share.

Shalom!

School

Wowzah!!

The first week of school is officially half-done now... and things will be getting tougher over the next 2 days! We've polished off a bunch of tests so far & have a whack more for tomorrow, but so far I'm keeping myself in the high 70's to low 80's, which is more than what I need to pass the week thank gawd!

Anyhoo... buncha studying to do tonite, as well as supper with the class at BP's, so I'll catch ya on the flip side!

Steps <grin>

Wow, it's been a while since I've posted!

What to tell... oh - stitches out on Friday - self removed 'cause I didn't want to wait for the doc all morning (okay everyone together now... EEEEEEEW, GROSS!!!); not using the crutches anymore unless I push the newfound mobility too hard & my knee puffs up again - so every 2nd day almost since I tend to be a "push the limits" kinda gal (okay, in some aspects of life at least!).

Went to Sylvan Lake with my boy & my sis on Sun afternoon after a not so great sleep the night before - we spent the night at my sister's place after the girls left Sat eve - I had nooo idea her neighbourhood could be so noisy! But maybe I'm just used to the insulated sanctum I call home. ;-> Pushed the knee a wee bit too hard on Sunday (whether it was from sitting in the car for the trip to Sylvan & back, or the hobbling on the sand). Ended up on crutches & not so mobile on Monday, which sucked since a friend came in from Calgary to go Fringing. We ended up going to the Cracker Cats game instead which was a blast!! Also totally cool... met my sister's new... uh... friend... who seems like a really stand-up guy (not to mention the fact he's a real hottie as well!).

So there you go, the past week just about in a nutshell!

Oh YEAH!!! I drove my car today..... doo dah, doo dah.... I drove my car today, oh the doo dah day!

Went downtown for a pedicure and had lunch with my sister... picked up my boy from summer camp, went shopping at Ikea & got a phone call from my mom (love her to bits ;->) wanting to make sure I was okay... after all, this IS the first time I've driven my car since surgery! I'm not sure what she thought might happen to me... but I love her for worrying even if it does make me squirrely sometimes!

The Knee... con't!

Well, it was a week ago today that they sliced open my knee to scrape out the shredded ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), trim the torn cartilage and drill holes through my tibia & femur so they could insert the new ligament & scew it (literally) into place. What fun!!

I've had the crappiest night's sleep the last 2 nights - waking up in the wee small hours with excruciating pain in my tibia - to the point where I've seriously considered waking someone up to take me into the hospital. Those of you who know me, know how bad that is... ugh.

So anyhow... hopefully tonight is better for sleeping! I'll take 2 percoset & see you in the morning!

Oh yeah... here's the ever lovely knee as it looks today.....

Sisters rule!!

I love my sister!!

She knows this already, but I had to say it again. Not only did my wonderful sister get up early(ish) to have breakfast with the kids & I, she hung out with us all day too. We went to Golfarama where the kids practiced on the driving range & played mini golf, then over to Chapters for a coffee (for us) and books for the kids.

And then... as if that wasn't enough... she played chauffeur so I could get groceries and drove me around to run errands as well! She saved me from sitting in the closet like this.....

 I love my sister!!

72 hours after

Wow.. it's been 3 days now! Today was yet another busy, productive day... as you can tell by the pic I've posted! I never realised that my cat could stretch his body almost the entire length of my torso! Whoulda' thunk it??

The aftermath

Here we are, just over 48 hours post-op... I can say I sure feel a hell of a  lot better now than I did Tuesday evening coming home! I think it took us almost an hour to get me out of the car, into the house, down to the bathroom and then settled into the Lazyboy recliner for the evening. WHY they don't keep you in the hospital for the night is beyond me!

I sure don't rememer much of yesterday, other than little snippets of clarity in a largely percoset-induced haze... it's a good thing there's family here looking after me since I'd have a tough time even telling you what I had for supper last night!

Today was better... I managed to stand on one leg long enough to sort of wash my hair & gave myself a sponge bath even (oh where is that man-servant when I need him?!). Actually LEFT THE HOUSE today!!!! Hobbled to the van and got chaufferred(sp) to the bank where the teller ever so nicely informed me that I looked like I needed to be back in bed, not doing banking. <lol> Even went for ice cream today after the bank... but man, can I tell I'm not up to snuff yet! Just crutching the 200ft from the van to the bank and back again had me in a cold sweat and ready to flop back down in bed. I guess I'm just not as resilient as I used to be, huh?

Ah well... <G> major surgery & all I guess, huh? Here's the latest pics of the knee... yuck!!
8月9日

Here we go!!!

Well, here goes everything... it's time for some slicing, drilling & screwing!!

Today is the big day... they're replacing my ACL at some point today. I've had nothing to eat since midnight (tho it DID take me until 1am to finish my water)... not much sleep either I'm afraid. Got up early with one of my kids (who's got a horsey art camp this week) to feed her breakfast, then did some last minute cleaning up and prepping so that I can get aroud the house after surgery without bumping into too many things!

I was more excited yesterday, I think... until I got home and found out that they'd moved the surgery check-in time from 0730hrs to 1030hrs... and now we'll see if they even do the surgery before lunchtime. Ugh! I'm SO THIRSTY right now!!! I won't get out of the hospital until 2000hrs or thereabouts... maybe later if they don't do the surgery until afternoon sometime.

I'm nervous as hell... half an hour to go until we leave for the hospital. In the meantime, I figured I would post some pre-surgery pics of my knees for you, just in case you wanted to see the before & after shots! <rofl>

So without further ado............... my knees before surgery!

The knee & me

Well, here we are... 9 days away from surgery... the nerves are definitely starting to set in! I know it'll get worse as I get closer to the actual date, but it's finally sinking in that they're slicing my knee open. I know the ortho surgeon who's doing the sgy is excellent and really knows what he's doing (I wouldn't let him otherwise)... but it's still daunting!

Time

Wow... 2.5 weeks until surgery! I'm excited... it'll be nice to finally have a knee that works the way it's supposed to... but it's a little nerve-wracking as well. The thought of having holes drilled through my femur & tibia, and then having screws holding my new ligament in place is a little daunting to say the least! I know physio isn't going to be fun at all... but it's sure a necessary part of the recovery process if I want to give myself the best chance of total recovery post-op.

Ah well... I'll post some pre-op pics next week as we get closer to going under the knife!

Take care all!!  :o)

Jasper

Wow... Jasper was an experience!! My munchkin and I had a great time together... went to the hotsprings, visited the old Miette Hotsprings site, got up close and personal with a young buck(?) and just generally had a great time! Sure it rained on us once or twice, but pshaw... what's a little rain?

After dropping my son off, the dawg & I went back to our campsite near Jasper to meet my sister. That night we drank, played crib and met some very drunk, nice and young(!!) guys from up North who were down for the weekend. They disappeared pretty quickly though when they met a couple of girls closer to their own age. Good for them! ;->

The next day my dawg & I went for what was supposed to be a 3km hike down to the mouth of the Snaring River from our campground and back up again. We ended up walking through the resting spot of a bear while trying to get back upstream (creepy to say the least!) and got stopped by the swampiness from the high river levels. I figured we'd waalk the train tracks back to dry ground instead and then cut cross country towards the river, but it wasn't to be so. While walking down the tracks close to Mr. Bear's home, there was the sound of a large animal breaking through the bushes across the tracks from us... the noise stopped when we did & resumed shortly after we started walking again (my money is on the bear who's spot we disturbed). Needless to say, dawg & I cut over to the highway as fast as we could... and walked the long way back to camp!

I could have so easily stayed in Jasper for another month... but it's good I came back when I did... work needed me! ROFL!!
6月29日

Summer

Wow... it's hard to believe that the summer is upon us already! I know, I know... the official start of summer was a little while ago already, but it's finally sunk in! I've been frantically washing and packing my son's clothing for his month-long trip to BC to see his coastal family, and realising that in two short months summer will be over again.

I mean think about it... the year is half done already! What have we got to show for it? I guess from now on, any money we make through work will actually be ours (did you know that the first half of your year's salary goes to federal and provincial taxes in one form or another?)... and July/August *are* the hottest months of the year!

So we're going camping... the (not so)little guy and I... we'll leave tomorrow for a couple of days R&R in Jasper... maybe go up the tram and spend an evening in the hotsprings. I've never celebrated Canada Day there, so it'll be a new experience for both of us! :o)  Then he'll head off to BC and my sister will join me in Jasper for Sat/Sun nite and part of Monday... I'll have Monday eve to myself and then back to the real world on Tues afternoon.

I'm soooo looking forward to this!! :-D
